Set in rural Italy in the 1980s, the film tells the story of Arthur, a British archaeologist recently released from a prison sentence for grave-robbing. Unrepentant, and spurred by his uncanny ability to sense underground tunnels where Etruscan graves can be found, Arthur gathers his crew of fellow looters to resume the search. In contrast to the other members of the gang, Arthur is not motivated by money, but by an overwhelming desire to find a door to the after-life.
The film has elements of magic realism, (such as the mythical chimera itself) and raises questions about whether sacred grave goods should ever belong to living people, or whether they must remain in eternity with the dead.
You find the film on BBC iPlayer, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, BFI Player and Curzon Home Cinema.
