Our Home in Mayfair

Founded in 1886 by pioneers of women’s education, the University Women’s Club has made its home in the heart of Mayfair for more than a century, offering a welcoming social and cultural community for women of all ages and backgrounds.

For 140 years, the Club has provided a retreat from the stresses of London — a comfortable home away from home where members can meet, make friends, exchange ideas and enjoy one another’s company.

Our home in Audley Square is a peaceful place to work or research in comfort; a space to meet colleagues or friends for business or socialising; a tranquil haven to read and escape from the bustle of the city; and a relaxing place to enjoy a delicious seasonal meal in beautiful surroundings.

The Clubhouse was purchased from the Russell Family in 1921 and is fully owned by the members. Our iconic wood-panelled Library, elegant light-filled Drawing Room, and Dining Room with its seasonal menu and carefully curated wine list are much loved and frequented by members. The private Members’ Room, tucked away on the second floor and looking out towards Hyde Park, provides a quiet retreat, while the cosy Lobby & Bar are ideal spots to relax over a glass of wine or gather with friends. During the warmer months, we can enjoy the added benefit of our beautiful, terraced garden that provides a secluded and cool spot to relax under the shade of our towering plane tree.

The UWC provides accommodation for its members, guests and reciprocal members, with 22 recently renovated bedrooms, promising a warm and comfortable stay in the heart of the capital.

Throughout the year, our events programme and Clubs-within-the-Club, provide a wide range of social, educational, entertaining and gastronomic events,fostering the warm sense of community that is such an important part of Club life. Members with shared interests can gather in person or virtually to explore new ideas, catch up with old friends, meet new people and discover something new. The Library, Drawing Room and other Club rooms are available to hire for private events, offering exquisite and intimate spaces for your special occasion. Whether you’re celebrating your wedding or a special anniversary, holding a drinks reception or cocktail party, or hosting a conference, lecture, book launch or business meeting, the University Women’s Club provides the ideal setting, tailored to your specific needs. Women of all ages and backgrounds, from scientists and teachers to writers, artists, musicians, diplomats, lawyers, business women, academics and doctors, meet here in comfort to talk, read, make new friends, enjoy one another’s company and entertain guests. Members are welcome to bring guests of any gender to the Club, and guests may stay in our bedrooms when booked in by a member.
