Founded by the pioneers of education for women, the University Women’s Club is a welcoming and secure environment for professional, business, student and graduate women.
For the past 130 years, the club has offered itself to members as a retreat from the stresses of London, as a resource with our library and intellectual events and as a network for busy women to meet and engage with likeminded individuals.
Women of all ages and backgrounds with a variety of careers as scientists, teachers, writers, artists, musicians, diplomats, lawyers, businesswomen, academics and doctors meet in the comfortably appointed rooms to talk, read, enjoy each others company and entertain friends. Men are welcome at all times and may stay in the en-suite rooms if booked in by a member.
Young Members enjoy a diverse social programme including Thursday evening Club Suppers and cocktails on the last Friday of every month. Our affiliation with the Inter-Club Group allows our Young Members the opportunity to socialise with a wide array of individuals from other clubs across London.
Our gracious home in Audley Square was purchased from the Russell Family in 1921, and its garden-adjacent Dining Room, wood-panelled Library and elegant Drawing Room are much loved and used by our members.
The clubhouse also has 22 bedrooms for use by our members and their guests and reciprocal members. Affordably priced, the rooms promise a warm and comfortable stay.
We welcome all candidates for application and invite them to register their interest with the club. The Chairman hosts a reception for potential members once a month offering women the opportunity to explore the club and meet elected members before completing their application form. We look forward to seeing you soon!

This past fall I moved from Texas to London to begin my Master’s at King’s College London. Joining UWC has been a great avenue to meet new people and connect with fellow academic women, which has been such a wonderful opportunity as an international student. Whether it is chatting with friends over drinks, attending featured lectures, or heading to the members’ room to get a study session in at the club, I continue to feel at home at UWC and branch out socially

I was delighted to meet Susie (Chairman) and Siobhan (VC) when the UWC joined as a member Club. Having the UWC on board and learning what a wonderful spread of activities and accommodation the Club had to offer was thrilling and becoming a UWC member has given me the enormous pleasure of meeting so many interesting and vital women - am particularly keen on “The Meeting of Curious Minds” evenings and other stimulating events. The Club food is excellent and it is a great place to bring friends. The Member’s Room is a joyful haven for resting up between appointments on long days in town. Having spent most of my working life overseas, the Club offers me the chance to catch up on my own interests and culture after life as a diplomatic spouse. As a rather elderly lady these days, I do enjoy the mix of ages and learning about today’s zeitgeist.

I joined the club as I quite liked the idea of traditional dining and social networking.
I wanted to make friends who I could have great fun and explore similar interests with, like horse racing, polo, millinery classes etc. Another attribute that drew me in is the fact that the club is filled with leading women in every field over various generations;
the plethora of wisdom and support available is mind blowing. The club also serves as a solace in the midst of a massively fast paced, noisy city but I would say the people are the most amazing thing about UWC.
